Since January 2024, I am a Professor of Politics and Society at Aalborg University and Co-director of the Center for the Study of Coercion and Accountability (CECA).

I have previously served as Director of the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) and the Uppsala Rotary Peace Center, and have been a visiting researcher at Oxford University, University of Notre Dame, Kobe University, and Copenhagen University.

My primary research interests concern state coercion and policing. I am currently leading a five-year project on Variation in Institutional Oversight of Police Misconduct which examines how states respond to charges of police abuse across OECD democracies. My work has been funded by the European Research Council, Swedish Research Council, Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Folke Bernadotte Academy.
